The things we LUV about HiFi?

I like listening to music through various means, but I particularly love how intentional it is to listen to vinyl through speakers.

It's a deliberate choice and it's usually a commitment to listening to at least one side of a record in the order the artist wanted, rather than blasting from track to track digitally (and I say this as someone who streams more than he listens to vinyl).

There's something rewarding and quite mindful about having that focus on listening.

Really, it should only be about music. Once you add 'Hifi' it becomes anal and predominantly male orientated.

My partner happily listens to music on her laptop, her phone or via headphones and she would rather go to a few live concerts than spending money on Hifi.

Me on the other hand, anal and male ...

Good. Your happy listening to music and not the devices that deliver it!
Yes, many times read that a tapping foot is how you know when equipment is good - but I've always tapped hands and feet to music - regardless of its source.

I reckon I'm probably equally into music and hifi - must've been about 8-10 years old when Uncle took me to London hi-fi shows.
I'm glad he did.

I love music more than I love hi-fi. That's a bit like saying I like holidays more than I love flying! Can't do one without the other.

Sound has to be number 1. Especially when you get a bright, new, shiny piece of kit and the bass lines suddenly come to life, the music breathes in it's own space and the lyrics are crystal clear.

These days we have vision catching up. Those dancing VU metres on an 11 inch screen that you can see from the other side of the room are very addictive. They just add to the overall enjoyment, though for no apparent reason!

So Hi-Fi has become sound and vision. Great name for a magazine in there somewhere!

well the quality of sound was always a plus as when young i heard music in every type of stereo , but at home music seemed to come alive, no one else had that much money spent on a system like my father, and from 2 to 2 years something brutally expensive just for the fun of having at home what was considered the best,

kids used to make fun of my system in the bedroom ,"it´s all made of wood and iron" but i used to increase the volume and stop hearing them, but all came to me to record reels or cassettes,

many had those old big radios with the main cities of the european countries and a portable litle reels player with luck ,radio too, heavy as hell, this already in the 70´s was still in use ,also those big piece of furniture with a big arm in metal in the record player, not working but radio would be always on,

the diamond stylus where i lived after coming from Africa, was maybe my turntable and other guy from police forces ,all the neighborhood with houses not buildings were using still those stylus that a record after being listened in those old stylus would never sound perfect in a diamond stylus turntable,

in the 80´s i notice some still had them and guys that bought a lot of records, big wooden systems with a 8-track cartridge deck ,horizontal compact systems,

there was a brand more used that was "Silvano" modern looking with nice features and cassettes already

When, suddenly all distractions vanish, I close my eyes and all I have is the music. Possibly the only other medium that can come close, is a good book.
made me remenber when i was 16 and couldn´t go out, stayed listening to lp´s and reading a good book, that was a long lost entertainment for teenagers.
Today i know guys and girls that with almost 50 years never in their lives they red a book or fried an egg

DSD takes up a lot of storage space, though, and is limited to only Classical music, that is now available on NativeDSD.com
maybe, DSD is fine but i would never trade LSD for DSD ,might not do it for decades but all teenagers where i lived took LSD and anywhere, even when having nothing to do, mostly young girls and some boys and men would take LSD and i would go with the flow normally 5 years younger than me, even inside the city where i live it seems empty in summertime, but very nice trips, i remenber being in the center of the city(old one before the birth of christ, already existed), where i live and like in a second i was 150km´s far in a beach, but without noticing i was again in the castle of my town, strange things happened, some would take it like several times a week and then fried brains forever, i in the hard years 4 times a year at the most, but good LSD, drops or paper stamps, didn´t thought of that for decades

Oh God, I was kidding about the LSD 🤣

Mind you when I was young, very occasionally with friends. I would partake in the inhaling of the dried green contents from a Rizla wrap, perhaps that is why I hear the difference between cables, it truly must have affected my brain. 😆:screamcat:

Unwrapping the packaging when it arrives, raising it up in the air like the Lion King, "Hakuna Matata."

Then you wire it up to your system, you power it up, you listen. Then you think to yourself, "It’s the circle of life."

And primarily the highest abilities of singers and musicians in producing the most natural and original symphonic music of that Artist’s works. This also includes the Studios, composers, producers etc.
That listening to such great music is made possible for everyone.

I only listen to Western/European and mainly English songs.
